How to connect your hardware wallet with GeroWallet
Non-custodial wallets are a must-have for every crypto user, but they can be easily intercepted if a user interacts with an exploitative contract or discloses their security keys. A hardware wallet offers superior security compared to a web or mobile wallet application since the physical device never interacts with the internet and the private keys are stored offline.

With update 1.9.0, users will be given the option to create a new wallet that is linked to a hardware wallet of choice. Once successfully linked, users will be able to perform regular tasks like token transfers and contract interactions via the GeroWallet interface and approve the transactions on the hardware.
How to link GeroWallet to a hardware wallet?
Before you import your Ledger hardware wallet into GeroWallet, you will need to complete a couple prerequisite steps.
Your hardware wallet already needs to be set up. This means that you have already gone through Ledger’s onboarding steps, and backed up your wallet’s seed phrase. Also, you will need to have the Cardano app installed on your Ledger device.
First, open the GeroWallet Chrome extension, and click on the “Import Cardano wallet” button at the bottom.
Next, select “Connect a Hardware Wallet” on the far left.
Note: GeroWallet supports both Trezor and Ledger hardware wallets. This guide shows how to connect a Ledger Nano X; however, connecting other devices is very similar.
On the next two screens, select the make and model of your hardware wallet.
If you haven’t already done so, connect your hardware wallet to your computer.
Note: If you’re using a bluetooth-enabled hardware wallet (i.e. Ledger Nano X) make sure that bluetooth is turned off in your device settings.
Also, unlock the device by entering your pin code, and open the Cardano app on your hardware wallet.
Check the box saying that you’ve connected your device, and click “Next”.
If your device is properly connected to the computer, you’ll see your device’s name in a chrome pop-up. Select the wallet, and click “Connect”.
Now click “Got it”. If everything has been done properly, you will see “Export public key…” on your Ledger device. On your device, press “Confirm export public key”.
From here, it’s like setting up any other wallet. Set your password.

And congratulations! You’ve successfully imported your Ledger wallet into GeroWallet. Now you can manage your Ledger’s crypto from GeroWallet.
You can check that your wallet has been imported by opening the GeroWallet extension. You should see a new wallet on the interface with a Ledger watermark in the bottom-right corner of the wallet’s cover.
Hardware wallet support has been heavily requested by the community since we deployed our web wallet. With the enhanced security, you can now safely store your assets on GeroWallet without fear of contract exploits and network hacks.
